A portrait that looks deep into your soul has to be the way to start the new year. What do we want for ourselves and others as another year of our lives begins? Resolutions are but a shallow, quick-fix that glide over the surface of our minds, never sticking.
Know thyself, said Socrates, and I think that is what this painting is asking us to do – to look into our souls, to listen to that quiet, small voice, so often buried under the noise of thoughts. Be still. Listen, don’t speak. Look, with love in your heart. Know that you have all you need within, for with soul everything is possible.

Johann Kupetzky, Self-Portrait 1709
